John Martin is an editor and writer who specializes in the subject areas of public-sector management and policy at all levels of government. As a contributing editor for Governing magazine, he manages and edits online commentaries.
Martin was among Governing's founding editors, serving as managing editor of the magazine, launching its website in 1996 and later serving as the website's editor. Before joining Governing, he worked as a reporter and editor at newspapers in North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania and at a news wire service in Washington, D.C. From 2010 to 2016, he edited and published GovManagement Daily, an email newsletter focused on public administration. He also has edited two books on government management.
Martin is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a U.S. Army veteran. He lives in Washington, D.C.
